Masskrugstemmen translates as "bier-stein holding." It is a traditional Oktoberfest test of endurance. To participate, each contestant purchases a full liter of bier in a glass mug. The full mug will weigh about five pounds, which might not sound intimidating, but try holding it straight out in front of you with your arm fully extended and parallel to the floor. Contestants must hold this position as long as they can. If your arm sags, or your elbow bends or the bier sloshes, you're done, kaput. Last arm up wins. Participants may sign up on site the day of the event.
